Walk/Ride day -> Wear green!

Join the No Impact Project for an International Day of Giving Back! This month, as part of the No Impact Project’s monthly series of Give Back Days, we are partnering with the The Green Streets Initiative to organize the first Walk/Ride day in NYC! This city-wide action will encourage New Yorkers to use alternative modes of transportation such as bikes, walking, public transit, unicycles, carpooling, skateboarding, etc.  We are also partnering with local businesses who will provide deals for those who participate and wear green. In the evening, to celebrate, thank participants, and take action on sustainable transportation campaigns we are hosting a Meet-up at Luca Bar, where No Impact Man himself, Colin Beavan will be joining us!

This month, the theme for the No Impact Projects Give Back Days will be Transportation!  On November 18th, we are organizing “Walk/Ride day”, a city-wide day of action to promote the use of sustainable and healthy transportation.  While there are many necessary ways to tackle the climate problem, we believe that each of us being engaged in action is part of the solution.

Starting November 15, participants will sign up atwww.gogreenstreets.org and commit to riding a bike, walking, taking a bus, a subway or carpooling on that day. Throughout the day, local businesses who sponsor the event will provide discounts for participants.  This will be followed by a Meet-up at Luca Bar to celebrate living more sustainably. In other words, reduce your carbon emissions, get a rush of endorphins, meet other inspired people, and save money!  We also encourage all participants who are able to attend the Transportation Conference on Nov. 18th
hosted by Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer (http://bit.ly/vGlnw0).

This event not only can encourage us to look at our own consumption and transportation choices, but can raise awareness for others in our communities.  It also urges local businesses to be socially responsible while gaining new customers.  Organize your friends and co-workers and see the ways in which sustainable choices increase personal health, environmental health and community connection.

The No Impact Project is an international, environmental, nonprofit project, founded in the spring of 2009.  It was inspired by the No Impact Man book, film, and blog.
